Donald Trump recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel


 US President Donald Trump has recognized Palestine's Jerusalem or al-Quds as the capital of Israel. For the last few days, there was a rumor that such recognition would come. Trump had told about such possibilities in the telephone to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the world leaders. In that continuation, he announced despite the tremendous condemnation and protests of the world leaders. At the same time, he ordered the state department to start the process of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

"I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," Trump said from the White House. He also described his decision as "new approach" to solving the thorny conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed this announcement and said that the first condition for any peace talks with Palestine is that, must have to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He urged other states to follow the US steps.

The United States is the only country in the world, which made such a controversial decision beyond the United Nations decision making body. Although the decision was promised to the election campaign of Trump, Yet, it may have been unexpected to many that he would really declare Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel and push the Middle East into more instability, However, a senior official of the Trump administration said that Although Jerusalem is declared the capital it would not be changed the status quo with respect to the holy sites and other very sensitive sites including Al-Aqsa Mosque.


Let's take a quick look at why Jerusalem is so important.

1. For religious and historical reasons, Muslims, Christians and Jews - to the followers of three religions, Jerusalem or al-Quds are very important. In the eastern part of the city, Al-Aqsa Mosque, Dom off Rock and Greater Haram Sharif are located.  

  2.Since the creation of Israel according to the United Nations plan, the control of Jerusalem was supposed to be in the hands of the international community. But East Jerusalem occupied by Israel after the war in 1948 and Jerusalem after the war in 1967. 

1 3. Israel claims full- undivided Jerusalem as their capital. But none of the international community including the United Nations agreed with their claim.

14. Embassy of any state in the world is not located in Jerusalem. The countries that recognize Israel as a legitimate state, their embassy also in Tel Aviv city.

25.    Palestinians claim their right over East Jerusalem, Expecting East Jerusalem to be the capital of Palestine. If the independent, sovereign Palestinian state is established on the basis of the bilateral solution.

36. World leaders expressed anxiety that all status quo, Peace, and stability of Jerusalem will be threatened as a result of Donald Trump's decision.

47.     Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned Trump: This step will severely disrupt the peace process, security and stability in the region as well as the whole world.

58. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan termed this step as 'Red Line' for Muslims. He also threatened to break diplomatic relations with Israel If this step is taken.

69. Jordanian King Abdullah also said that such a decision would seriously affect the stability and security of the region. After a meeting, President Erdogan and King Abdullah reiterated their support for Palestine by holding a joint press conference.

710.   In addition, Iranian supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi President of Egypt, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, European Union's high-ranking representative Federica Mogherini, UN Secretary-General, Antonio Gutierrez condemned the action.

811.  The Palestinian organization Hamas warned, if any such of action is taken, they will launch an intifada or mass upsurge and declared Friday as ‘Day of rage ‘Protests against Trump.
